DIXIE BELLE and BELLES & WHISTLES TUTORIALS

Chalk Mineral Paint

Dixie Belle Painting will be the easiest and most enjoyable painting you will ever do!

  • Clean your piece, preferably with Dixie Belle White Lightning Cleaner, to remove dust and grime.

  • Paint with your favorite Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint color using a lightly dampened brush.

  • Distress (if you would like)

Dixie Belle Paint is very thick and a little goes a long way. The longer the lid stays off, the thicker it will get. If you'd like it thinner, no worries, just add a little water and stir. Add too much water? No worries, just leave lid off and it will thicken up. Whatever consistency you desire, Dixie Belle Paint will work for you!

Distress a little too much for your taste? That's okay! Just paint right over that area and start again!

Most pieces will take one to two coats for full coverage. Sometimes, after the first coat dries it will look blotchy. Don't freak out! After the second coat, it will be beautiful!

Sometimes you will see brushstrokes, don't worry, as the paint dries, they will disappear. Dixie Belle Paint is the best paint for self leveling.

Dry time: 15 minutes - Cure time: 21-30 days

Voodoo Gel Stain

This stain is water-based, is a little more translucent than the No Pain Gel Stain and provides medium coverage.

  • You can use all of our stains on painted or unpainted surfaces.

  • Allow 72 hours before staining on fresh paint.

  • Both stains can be applied with a lint-free cloth, a paint brush, or you can use our Applicator Pads!

  • Start out with a small amount and then apply more depending on the shade you are looking for. Remember that less is more. We suggest testing it on a inconspicuous spot first.

  • Remember that Voodoo Gel Stain is water based and will dry faster than No Pain Gel Stain, which is oil based.

Dry time: 15 minutes - Cure time: 21-30 days

Crackle

  • Stir the Crackle well and apply over paint.

  • Allow to dry completely.

  • Apply coat of Chalk Mineral Paint in any color.

  • Dry time: 24 hours

Dixie Dirt

  • Using a clean brush, dip into Dixie Dirt and brush over the surface, especially the nooks and crannies. Really rub it in there.

  • Wait a few minutes and brush off the loose dirt.

  • Using a lint-free cloth, very gently buff your piece. Gently work from the middle out to the edges so you get a nicely worn look.

Moonshine Metallics

  • Clean with White Lightning.

Glazes

This is where the fun really begins! Want to add depth and dimension to a flat piece? Dixie Belle Glaze finishes do just that!

  • Give the Clear Coat a couple hours to dry (or you can glaze first and then Clear coat).

  • Be sure the glaze is mixed really well.

  • Working in sections, use a chip brush or sponge brush and start applying the glaze to your liking.

  • If you are working with a piece with lots of nooks and crannies/carvings, work the glaze in to make those details pop.

  • If you would like less glaze, simply wipe off with a damp rag or paper towel.

Dry time: 15 minutes - Cure time: 21-30 days

Sea Spray

  • This is the Best Chalky Paint Additive to Create a Chippy, Textured, Weathered, Sun-Kissed Look!

  • Mix 2 level scoops of Sea Spray to 8 oz. of Dixie Belle Paint. Mix another ½ scoop, if needed. You want a thick, brownie batter-like consistency. If using larger amounts of paint, add scoops a couple at a time and stir.

  • Using a paintbrush, dab and smoosh the bristles to form crests and peaks, like ocean waves!

  • Once tacky, gently brush down the crests and peaks, calming the seas and creating texture. You can also leave as is, keeping the seas stormy!

  • For more dimension, when dry, simply add another paint color (with or without Sea Spray) or glaze of your choice, then sand! Easy Peasy!

  • Now you have a beautiful piece that looks like it’s been around for ages! We encourage you to use your imagination!! Just like a day at the beach, there's no wrong or right way to use Sea Spray.

WOODUBEND MOULDS & TRIMS

WOODUBEND TUTORIAL

WoodUbend Mouldings are decorative wooden mouldings, with a difference. When cool, they have all the properties of wood and can be sanded, stained, drilled, distressed, painted – in fact whatever you can do with wood, you can do with WoodUbend. Heat the wood mouldings and they bend, stretch and can even be sliced with a craft knife. Using a good quality wood glue, the wooden mouldings can be adhered to just about any surface.  WoodUbend Mouldings come in a wide range of designs including trimsscrolls & centrepieces.

Heat is essential with these innovative wood appliques, heat them up to make them pliable, apply wood glue to the moulding or the surface and apply pressure. Don’t worry, you won’t distort the pattern when pressing the decorative wood moulding onto the surface.

Any good quality wood glue is great to use with WoodUbend. We like to use Titebond or Gorilla Glue. Do not use Super Glue or PVA, they are not suitable.

You can heat WoodUbend in numerous different ways. The fastest way to heat your wood moulding is to use a heat gun, keeping it moving in circular motions. You can even use a hair dryer if you like, though this will take a little longer. It’s important to keep moving your heat source in circular motions without touching the WoodUbend so it doesn’t burn. A sausage griddle is ideal to keep your wood mouldings warm whilst working on a project.

WoodUbend mouldings are suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Just be sure to seal them and use a good quality wood glue. Perfect for those external upcycled furniture projects.

We strongly encourage you all to upcycle, upcycle, upcycle! WoodUbend decorative wooden mouldings are great for quickly and easily adding extra details and character to upcycled furniture. It doesn’t stop there though, there’s plenty of designs aimed at crafters and interior designers too – there’s something for everybody.

If you have a WoodUbend moulding that has a piece broken off or you simply want to use a segment of a decorative wood moulding then don’t worry! Once you have heated your WoodUbend moulding you will be able to cut through it like butter! To mend your Moulding, use a good quality wood glue and stick the two pieces back together again!

WoodUbend mouldings can be adhered to almost any surface just using a good quality wood glue! Use them on upcycled furniture, attach them to your plant pots,  front doors or even walls. Your creativity knows no bounds!

You may want to pre-paint your WoodUbend if you are sticking it to a surface that you have already painted! Make sure the paint is flexible, Dixie Belle and La Magic paints work well. As a rule of thumb, acrylic paint is flexible and chalk paint is less flexible. The paint should be dry before heating and bending.
